[HamBrewers] California Proposition 65

http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html?ie=UTF8&nodeId=3234041

States:

Electrical Cords

California requires the following notice:

WARNING: The wires of this product contains chemicals known to the State of California to cause cancer and birth defects or other reproductive harm. Wash hands after handling.

Warning to all members, after touching solder wire, PCB, wires  and or components wash your hands. Blow your nose to be safe. Those that have finished reproducing or beyond "that age" may ignore 1/3rd of this warning.

I would like to see a study of "reproductive harm" comparing 63/37 Eutectic, 60/40 and 50/50s solder before I decide what to use.

Cheers

hello everyone,
i had recently received my ham licence confirmation by "wpc" India,i am trying to make your vhf/uhf sdr receiver which can receive the frequency of 462.5 to 462.7 mhz,
i have a pair of uhf midland xt1000 2 way radios and i want to receive their transmission on the computer with sdr,
i am working on the sdr receiver design by YU1LM,the link is provided above, i am facing problems in choosing the right one out of the different models of uhf sdr receiver , {AR1,AR1-1,AR1-B,AR1B-1,AR1C,AR1C-1} they are the different version of vhf/uhf receivers by YU1LM..

also i am not able to find a bandpass filter required for 462mhz that can be used in this sdr receiver,
could anyone be kind enough to send me some details about the circuit that i should use for making this 462mhz receiver sdr, plus the circuit for a band pass filter details and also some instructions for connecting this band pass filter with the sdr design,
also kindly please provide and other circuit which is needed to make this sdr working as this will be my first sdr receiver.....
i had attached the pictures of the transceiver i'll be using to transmit and its frequency chart
eagerly waiting for your responce...

Re: [HamBrewers] Re: New version of MMana-GAL antenna modeling software is out

Hi Tan,

Sorry for not answering before but I had a busy working week-end.
I don't know AN-SOF. Reading the -less than clear- website it seems powerful.
I will have a look at it.

Thanks for sharing.

Re: [HamBrewers] kindly help in making a simple sdr receiver for uhf 462.5-462.7mhz...

Hi Varuni,

Perhaps I am wrong but I don't think a "simple" SDR can be made for UHF.
UHF implies careful design and nothing is "simple" then.

With small handheld transceivers like the one you show it is nothing easy to have access to the Intermediate Frequency...

What you can do is a cable taking the audio out of the transceiver and connecting it (with a lot of attenuation) to the mic input of your computer soundcard.
This will not really be SDR...
Have a look at this :

Hi,

With the good old VR tubes becoming hard to get, a lot of hams using the 807/ 1625/6146 tube based
homebrew amplifiers tried using the Zener string arrangement for Regulating the Screen Voltage.

Sometimes, the -ve screen current produced in the tubes ( many times due to improper loading of the amp) can not only destroy such zener strings, but also any kind of regulator based on the Series Pass Transistor design.

Here is a design based on BU508 Shunt regulator based on a QST design article by K5AM, being used by vu2GHB and a couple of others for quite some time now.

Hello,

I have been using MMana and AN-SOF100. I found AN-SOF is somewhat better since you can see the antenna geometry while you are drawing on the screen, avoiding the need of filling spreadsheets with a lot of coordinates.
