Re: [HamBrewers] stable 7mhz vfo

Dear Kishore,

Pls use AD9833 , a very low cost DDS IC ( Farnell sells for Rs.560=00) and if you donot need a freq. display then any small microcontroller would interface with that IC. Only three lines to be connected, you see. Something like a Rs65=00 IC,16F628 would not only drive the DDS but also can drive a LCD Display! For some details you could visit our Blog:

http://hamrmipl.blogspot.com/ and we have put a picture or two of the experiment.

Suggest running the DDS with 25MHz Cystal clock. And 16F628 can run on its own internal clock,

 Sorry for a long over.

hello group,
i have recently joined this group for i have liking for homebrewing. however i have been trying hard to make a 7mhz vfo whose output rf voltage should be more than 0.7 volts.
can any group member help me with such vfo circuits?

Re: [HamBrewers] Re: 2kw HF linear amplifier made in China

Pramod,

You are right about cheap products from China. China has a long way to go before they will produce real quality products. December QST has review of BAOFENG UV-3R 2m/70cm handheld transceiver and the report shows high spurious emissions 15dB below the fundamental on low power mode. It pushed out a 790uW second harmonic when it was on low power mode pushing out 25mW on 144 MHz. When on high power mode (2W) the second harmonic was 1.25mW or just 32 dB below. They tested two radios and both radios failed FCC spurious emission test on 2m band. QST editors did not consider it fit for publishing this review in the "review" section but put it in the technical correspondence section as a 3/4 page story.

That looks like a  (cheap) copy of the Alpha 8400. Even the alpha amp uses a pair of  the same chinese tubes, these tubes are considered drop in replacements for the expensive Eimac 4cx1000 tubes. Looks like the chinese have come a long way from the lead paint loaded toys and the mosquito bats to almost everything in extreme engineering.

Re: [HamBrewers] 2kw HF linear amplifier made in China

there is one particular model from RM Italy, which is a full fledged amp for ham radio usage. it has band pass filters and operates with 13.8 volts. there are three exhaust fans also for
controlling the heat, more from here.

this amp works on the rf sense principle and only needs an rf input of 10 watts which even an rm96 can do and will produce about 450 watts out.

There are some making solid state linear in China mainly for CB, but i found one which states HF. Looks similar to the RM series of amps.

Some more details from a friend in BY land - I quote him verbatim below:

About the amp, the models are HF2000DX, HF2010DX, AND HF2011DX-A.  The specs are almost the same with OM series (please check out the website: http://www.om-power.com/ for more information). HF2000DX=OM 2500HF, HF2011DX-A= OM2500A, The price is about 20K RMB (HF2000DX) and 30K RMB (HF2011DX-A), HF2010DX = HF2000DX + a 4 line antenna switch, I'm not clear about the price for that, maybe it's around 1K - 2K more than HF2000DX.  Currently the exchange rate for RMB/USD is about 1usd = 6.35 RMB.  So I think you can get the rough idea about these amplifiers now.

But I don't know whether they can ship it to you country or not, and also have no idea about the shipping cost...

Re: [HamBrewers] Re: 2kw HF linear amplifier made in China

Yes. You can find really high quality and technology stuff made in China.
Two problems : quality control and specification respect along a long time period...
At that time speaking of this amplifier they are willing to offer long time warranty for the amplifier and 1 year for the tube.
Like in Vietnamese culture, with confucianism they learn how to do "more", "cheaper" but "better" is too subjective.
