Antenna is definitely one possiblity , a rig with DSP should do a good job. STAR with nosie supression was decent enough to listen on 80M with heavy QRM.
The down side will be the audio some tiems might feel metallic to listen to, before buying the box , if its possible take the IF out and down convert that and give to some SDR SW which runs in the PC and check if its any better. Also you can buy boxes which does this. W9GR , i think started this long back.
