Here is an interesting article LINK
"Electrical socket concept forcibly ejects plugs of inactive appliances and devices"
This reminds me of our own vu2rvb Balu Balakrishnan of Bangalore, who invented the chip that goes to sleep and draws only milliwatts in wallwarts. It is there in every mobile charger is my guess. In 1999 Balu (or Bala as I called him) was named environmentalist of the year and honored with a 100,000$ check. He is now the chairman of Power Intergrations AKA POWI on NASDAQ.
Bala and I grew up on the same street. We as teenagers were bitten by the radio bug. We moved on to making BC transmitters.. then one day we heard about Amateur radio and there was one near by.. we cycled to VU2RQ Jam's shack and boy were we hooked. Jam may recall two kids pestering him and he was a great elmer. He introduced us to all the other OTs. We both did electronics in the same college and Bala went to the US and was in National Semi for sometime I remember.
