Stacy,
Same experience here and a FTDI based CAT interface resolved the issue to connect my ICOM 821H to HRD and wisp DDE. I have also noticed that geneuine prolific chipset based converters also do not work satisfactorily with some of the apps for HAM Radio.

Hiya all
Sometime last year, I believe that I came across one of these counterfeit chips bought off eBay to drive my TS-480 via USB. Tried to rename the chip by editing te kext file. My Mac did not like the chip or recognise it so would not allow connection whatever i did!
In the end, I bought a nice cat lead with the ftdi chipset which solved the problem.
