| Sounds a bit complicated. Is it possible to make 24v supply using two of them in series, I was told it cannot be done because of the floating outputs.

Paddy, This works , I have used it as described and also made one of my own with the same configuration.the trick is to get the oldest one as possible so that they have the 494 chip. I later brought few for 50Rs each and then pulled out the required components and then made one of my own.
